What to know about corrected grain leathers
Corrected-Grain leather, also known as Top-Grain leather, in an effort to improve the appearance of lower quality hides the natural grain is sanded off and replaced artificially. Top grain leather must generally be heavily painted (pigmented) to cover up the sanding and embossing processes required to mimic the missing grain. These operations can sometimes compromise certain visual and tangible aspects, particularly softeness and/or break.
Corrected grain leathers are recommended for smaller patterns and in a non-flex area of the shoe.
Advantage of a full grain leather
Unlike Corrected grain leather, Full-Grain leather is made from the finest hides. Only the hair has been removed, leaving the grain in its natural state which allows for the best fiber strength, which consequently results in greater grain tightness and enhanced durability. Expect improved wearability because the grain surface has not been mechanically altered and/or compromised. A natural full grain also provides superior breathability thereby enabling greater footwear comfort.
